My Chemical Romance going on tour in 2025.
I remember when I bought tickets in French class for their farewell tour (that I was unfortunately rescheduled to a date I couldn't attend).
Bottom line, if you were telling me that My Chemical Romance was going to tour the year I graduate college, I would have called you a liar. Yet here we are.
I think it is really interesting to look at the presence pop-punk and emo music has at the moment. Coming back from the death of Vans Warped Tour, fans of these genres are now being met with new set lists nearly WEEKLY for crazy festival lineups and now -- stadium tours. What changed??
I for one have been listening to the same Spotify playlist titled, "not a phase" rotated between the 60FPS Remastered YouTube upload of Panic! At The Disco Live in Denver from 2006, So why the sudden attention. After all, it isn't like most of these bands are actively releasing new music.
From an industry standpoint, I'd like to say its because of our current social and political climate. Being rather... tumultuous (for lack of a better word) there is no time better than now for a resurgence of a genre built on anti-authoritarian values. That being said, as a fan, I'd like to believe its because these bands know if they swear to shake it up, we swear to listen.
I do not exaggerate when I say that I would sell a kidney to time travel to 2006. The aesthetics of Panic! At The Disco during A Fever You Can't Sweat Out were matched only by their ridiculously quick progression of success. Starting out as a supporting act that would then lap the bands they would open for in a years time to headline the same roster -- the bold vaudeville production partnered with poetic lyricism was just what was missing.
And call me crazy, but I feel we are at a similar place now in 2024... or maybe I just crave an experience similar to that of The Nothing Rhymes with Circus Tour.
What concert would you do anything for a chance to experience? Do you think today is ready for a resurgence?
